Help, My Dog Has Fleas!

If you’ve ever complained, "My dog has fleas", you are not alone!

Finding fleas on our dogs is a major concern and poses a different problem than flea bites on humans.

On a dog, fleas tend to gather into one (or more) general places and will create a red, broken, and open sore spot, whereas on a person, they bite one time and then move on, as there is not fur to hide in.

Fleas will feed in groups on your dog because the sore they have created is so easily assessable.

When a dog scratches, they simply run through her fur for a few inches, then go back to the same spot to continue feeding.

Before long, your dog will have a large, red and open wound from all of the flea bites.

Many dogs are allergic to the saliva in the flea’s bite. Fleas also cause tapeworms, which is an intestinal parasite that is very hard on your dog.

Even if your Chihuahua is not allergic to the flea’s saliva, serious sore spots will still occur, as your dog is unable to keep the fleas off of her.

The scratching and biting at herself drives owners crazy, but the poor pup is absolutely miserable, and sometimes will scratch and bite herself until she loses part of her beautiful coat.

Bathing dogs, even with flea shampoo, does not end the flea cycle. Many of the fleas simply jump off of the dog only to re-jump on her later, and flea shampoo only kills the adult fleas.

Unless the flea cycle is broken, nothing will stop the fleas from going back to feed on your dog, over and over again.

Learning how to kill fleas by ending their lifecycle is the only way to truly keep your dog flea free. After the flea problem is corrected, then various products can be applied to your dog’s sore spots to help them heal faster.

Then when your friend complains, "My dog has fleas", you can proudly say, “Mine doesn’t"!
