Are Flea Bites A Cause For Concern?

Flea bites are a big concern not only for your dog, but also for humans. A flea does not care where it gets its next meal from and will bite anything that has a blood supply!

Flea bites on a human leaves an itchy little red bump, almost like a mosquito bite, but smaller.

The intense itch left behind from these bites will continue to flare up over several days.

Fleas on dogs cause many problems. Some dogs are allergic to fleas and when they get bitten, they can have raised red welts on them with intense scratching and biting, which can also sometimes cause patchy fur loss.

This can develop into open sore spots and these nasty pests will then gang up on the irritated spot and continue to bite the same area, over and over.

Fleas that are on puppies that are younger than 8 weeks of age have to be dealt with in a different manner than you would with older pups and dogs.

Also, fleas carry tapeworm, which then becomes another separate issue to worry about.

Since there are 4 stages in the flea’s life cycle, it really doesn’t help to kill just the adult flea.

Unfortunately, products such as flea bombs, foggers, and collars all target the adult and do not do anything to stop the actual life cycle.

By the time you have killed any adult fleas that you’ve found, you can bet that they have already laid eggs which will just keep the cycle repeating.

Many people do not know what fleas look like, so they may not realize there is a problem starting.

Fleas are very small and can hop and run quite quickly. They can easily go undetected until there are lots of them!

Fleas can hide in your carpet, but there is a way to solve that problem.

They also have a hard shell to them, so they do not kill easily.

How to treat the bites will depend on whether the bites are on a person or on your dog.

Killing fleas are not as hard as some people make it out to be. There are effective ways to kill them and keep them off of your dog, out of your home, and off of you!
