Is Your Dog Chewing On Your Belongings?

Dog chewing is one of those things that we wish we didn't have to go through as pet owners.

Sometimes it seems that housebreaking and every other type of training combined, is easier to handle than figuring out how to protect our possessions!

Every Chihuahua is different. I've had some that never really chewed on forbidden items, and others that never chewed on their own toys, only on mine! dog chewing, Chocolate and Spotted Chihuahuas posing

A lot of it has to do with the actual dog's own unique personality, not just what breed of dog he is.

Though Chihuahuas are not known for continuous and never-ending gnawing, a few of them can be quite destructive.

Everyone expects to go through some type of puppy chewing and at first, they are willing to put up with it, assuming that it will be outgrown.

However, you really need to work on this immediately before it progresses to a more destructive adult habit, which can be much harder to break.

Teething puppies will sometimes seem to chew on things more than they did before, but luckily, with the proper puppy teething objects, they will quickly breeze through that stage of development.

Puppies also go through a stage of puppy biting. This should never be allowed and is not the same thing.

There are so many dog toys on the market that many times we can get overwhelmed by all of the choices.

Rawhide chews, rope toys, and canvas dog toys are a few of the good choices that help in the war on chewing!

There isn't really any right or wrong decision in what to buy, the choice mainly consists of having a large variety of them in your house, and learning which types of toys your own dog prefers.

Though some chewing is going to occur, it's nice to know that with the proper training and guidance, it shouldn't be a life long event!
