There are some basics that need to be addressed in the care for your Chihuahua, as small dog care differs somewhat from larger dog needs.
Chihuahuas are known for having teeth problems and weight issues.
I believe this is because they are picky eaters and are also so irresistible, that they get fed too many table scraps!
Because of this, you must be diligent in
properly caring for her teeth
or as she ages, you will have many problems, not to mention, lots of vet bills!
Her diet will have to be carefully monitored or she can quickly become overweight which can be a major health issue that can shorten her life.
You'll need to be extra diligent about not leaving any food items laying around, as Chihuahuas are always in our laps and on our furniture, and could very easily eat
human foods that are poisonous
to them.
Some Chihuahuas, but not all, get tear stained eyes that may need to be cleaned daily, but luckily this is a quick and easy job.
If you do notice
any dog ear problems starting to develop
, you will want to quickly have her seen by a vet, as dog ear infections can become very painful and dangerous within a short period of time.
Though they are inside dogs, this does not make them immune to fleas, ticks, or heartworm disease, as any of these can be easily picked up from just going outside to use the bathroom.
