The best way to remove ticks from people, is done slightly differently than removing them from dogs.
How to remove these parasites from people, depends upon whether or not the tick has already become engorged.
If it is not engorged, then light a match and allow it to burn for a moment. Blow out the flame and lightly touch the end of the tick with the hot match stick.
This will startle the tick and it will loosen its grip.
You are not trying to actually kill it at this point, you are only giving it a warm surprise, so it will ease up on its bite.
Using tweezers, grasp the tick directly at its head, where it has bitten in, and slowly pull it backwards.
It should come out quite easily at this point.
Though many people will tell you not to use a hot match as a way of removing them, it has always worked well for us.
You will still need to use the tweezers, as just the warm match itself will not make it come out on its own.
Do not do this with an engorged tick! Removal of one that is already engorged will have to be done with tweezers only.
They are hardy, little parasites, so after removing them, I always try to crush their back, then flush it down the toilet.
Put peroxide or an antibiotic cream where the bite was, and after washing your hands, put rubbing alcohol on them, just in case any bodily fluids came out of it, onto you.
This type of tick removal should only be done on people and not on your dog.
